RECREATIONAL (the original – started 2019)

*FRIDAY NIGHTS 5-7pm at H C Nesbit Park (field 7) – 1304 H C Nesbit Park Rd, Waxhaw, NC 28173, thru 5/21*

This is at the very core of the Maverick mentality as it fosters a community – we focus is 8-11yr old boys and girls in and around the Matthews area, and incorporates complete newbies as well as seasoned players.  Very kid-centric and a ton of FUN!  No commitments necessary – just show up on a Friday evening and play whenever the schedule allows.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Think of it as glorified ‘pick-up’ soccer to begin with. Kids will be in charge! We never know how many kids, or what ability range will be there…so it is completely up to them as to whether they just want a ball to practice with, or jump into a 3v3 game, or use a goal to play World Cup

AGE & ABILITY RANGE?

To begin with, the focus is on 8-10yr old children.  If you are a 7yr old who can hang with the older guys, or an 11yr old who doesn’t mind mingling with the younger crowd, then you’re welcome also.  ANY and ALL abilities welcome….  It’s just for FUN!  Bring a friend!

WHEN & WHERE?

Fall 2020 Recreational sessions are currently set for Friday nights (September thru end of November), 5:30-7pm, at Charlotte Preparatory School fields, 212 Boyce Rd, Charlotte – don’t worry if you can’t do the whole 90mins…feel free to show up at any time during that window to get some action

COST & COMMITMENT?

We ask for $5,000 (per season), practice 4 times a week, traveling to West Coast tournaments every 3rd week, and you’re not allowed to play any other sports….HAHA, just kidding!! Matthews Mavericks is completely FREE, and you can play as much or as little as you want – just show up

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?

Simple…through generous acts. Matthews Mavericks is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization which relies completely on donations. From field space, to training equipment and apparel, to marketing, to website administration, to coaching assistance… the list goes on… want to help? See our ‘Get Involved’ section.

PARENTS - YOUR ROLE?

You or a chosen adult MUST be at the fields while your child is, in case of illnesses, injuries, etc. THEY ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY….we’re simply helping to facilitate the chance to play. Just sit back and enjoy watching them!
